A security officer in Osun State University, guarding the school hostel in Okuku campus, has been reportedly suspended for beating a student of the institution.

The security officer was said to have beaten the student around 10pm on Wednesday at the school hostel in Okuku campus.

According to eyewitness who spoke with Olofofo Uniosun correspondent, the incident started as an argument between the security officer and a student of faculty of social science over the hostel identity card which the student could not present.

The eyewitness said, “The security man asked the students to present his hostel identity card. The argument led to the security officer to beat the student

The security man kept saying if the student had someone aged as him, he would not address him like that”.

Another eyewitness who pleaded anonymous said when the hostel members heard of what happened, they all came out to protest against it.

Meanwhile, the student who was beaten has been taken to a private hospital where he was treated.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the faculty of social sciences students’ association, Sunday Awe, said the student leaders went to the Chief Security Officer and he told them the management has suspended the security officer.

He however lauded the management for the action taken against the security officer.

“The CSO told us that the management has taken action on it and the officer has been suspended. This is not the first time the security officer would be maltreating the students. We are very happy about what the management did.” he said.
