UNIOSUN philosophy department holds first public seminar

The Philosophy Department of Osun State University, College of Humanities and Culture, held its first public seminar for both philosophy students and other students from various departments.
The theme of the seminar was “The value of philosophy in the context of sustainable development goals(SDGs).

 

The seminar which was held on Wednesday started by 12pm at the ETF A of the University hall.

It was attended by a total number of 145 students, various lecturers, the provost of the College, Mrs Temitope Balogun who was represented by Mr Afowewe, the HOD of the linguistics and communication studies, Mr Adefemi and other prominent members and staff of the University.

Olofofo Uniosun gathered that the seminar  was mainly organized to enlighten people on the role and importance of philosophy in the executing and quick implementation of these goals for the betterment of the society in general. Topics like: The relevance of philosophy in the society, Can philosophy cater for your essential needs and wants? the job opportunities available for philosophy graduates and various issues in clarifying fallacies about the course philosophy.

The guest speaker for the day, Dr. Kazeem Fayemi, a senior lecturer from the department of philosophy, University of Lagos, in his analysis, debunked the various misconceived assertions that philosophy is irrelevant to life and concrete reality.
